WHERE IT ALL STARTED
Curiosity has always been at the heart of DarkSpace.
From a young age, Jacabe (Jake) Wood was driven by a fascination with how things work; often taking things apart just to understand them better. That curiosity evolved into a lifelong pursuit of precision, creativity, and technical mastery.
Beginning his career in the electrical industry in 1998, Jake developed a deep understanding of how systems connect; the foundation of every successful design. His time collaborating with architects and interior designers in London refined that technical skill into an appreciation for the emotional power of light and its ability to transform space.
Returning to Australia in 2009, Jake sought to bridge the gap between technical excellence and design integrity. This vision led him to complete a Master of Lighting at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), where his passion for light deepened into the philosophy — that lighting should enhance architecture, evoke emotion, and enrich the way people live.
What began as a career in electrical work has evolved into DarkSpace; a studio dedicated to the seamless integration of lighting design and intelligent control systems. Every project is guided by one belief: that light is not simply seen, but felt. Shaping atmosphere, movement, and experience.
Today, DarkSpace brings together design precision, technical expertise, and KNX integration to create environments where architecture and technology exist in perfect harmony. The result is lighting that feels natural, intuitive, and effortlessly sophisticated.
